The Railsplitter Wanderers Volkssport Association is a recreational association dedicated to promoting physical fitness through participation in volkssporting (walking, biking, swimming, and skiing) events sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association (AVA). These events are free of charge and open to the public, although there is a nominal charge for those who choose to participate in AVA incentive programs.

Incentives Programs

There are several incentives programs in place to encourage walkers to participate.

Event books - participants may purchase event books which are stamped at the completion of each event. Event books may only be stamped once for each event. When the walker has received 10 event stamps, the book is mailed to AVA offices for confirmation and the walker is awarded a certificate, a hat pin, and their name is listed in The American Wanderer, the nationwide publication for the AVA. Additional levels of recognition are received for higher levels of event participation. The first event book may be free for new walkers who obtain a new walker packet from an AVA club.

Distance books - participants may purchase distance books which are stamped at the completion of each trail. Distance books may be stamped multiple times for an event, if the walker completes the trail more than once. When the walker completes 100 kilometers, the book is mailed to AVA offices for confirmation and the walker is awarded a certificate, a hat pin, and their name is listed in The American Wander, the nationwide publication for the AVA. Additional levels of recognition are received for higher levels of total distance completed. The first distance book may be free for new walkers who obtain a new wlaker packet from an AVA club.

Other special incentives programs in which walkers receive recognition for a series of events, such as completing walks in all 50 states, state capitals, as well as a number of other event series. See the AVA website for more information on these special programs.
